Breast Cancer Survivors Needed for Research Study

Press Release, July 24, 2014

Many breast cancer survivors experience cancer-related fatigue –tiredness or weariness related to cancer and/or its treatment – for months, or even years after treatment is completed. Massage therapy may help to relieve cancer-related fatigue. The Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center is currently studying the impact of massage on cancer-related fatigue.  The study is supported by a grant from the Massage Therapy Foundation.

You may qualify for the study if you are:

  • a breast cancer survivor
  • 18 years of age or older
  • at least one year out from active treatment
  • on or off Tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor (AI)
  • able to travel to Middlesex Hospital once a week for four straight week

Participants will receive one massage per week for four weeks and answer questions about their level of fatigue. The information collected will help the researchers learn more about the ability of massage to relieve the symptoms of cancer-related fatigue.

If you are interested in participating in this research study and feel you meet the qualifications, please call 860-358-2077 and leave a message. A research assistant will return your call as soon as possible.
