GrantMIDDLETOWN — Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center is the proud recipient of a $20,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Middlesex County/Barbara Weeks Hart and George H. Hart Memorial Fund, and it will use the money to help patients who face financial hardships as a result of their cancer diagnoses.

Cancer Center social workers will identify patients who qualify for financial support, and the grant money will help the patients with food, transportation, household expenses and other vital needs. This grant is presented in celebration of the Community Foundation’s 20th anniversary.

“A cancer diagnosis, and the treatments that follow, present a variety of challenges for many individuals. One of these challenges is often times an increased financial burden,” says Justin Drew, the Cancer Center’s Director. “The Community Foundation of Middlesex County/Barbara Weeks Hart and George H. Hart Memorial Fund recognizes this. This grant will help so many of our patients, and we are very grateful. We also congratulate the Community Foundation on its milestone anniversary.”

The Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center is accredited by several leading organizations and offers a comprehensive cancer program at two locations. One is in Middletown; and the other is in Westbrook. Both locations offer services, such as medical oncology, radiation therapy, infusion, genetic counseling, nurse navigators, survivorship services, integrative therapy, and they use the latest technology to diagnose and treat patients who have various types of cancer.

Patients also benefit from Middlesex Hospital’s collaborative relationship with Mayo Clinic. Through this relationship, Middlesex doctors can combine their understanding of their patients’ unique medical needs with Mayo Clinic expertise so that patients get exactly the care they need, close to home.
