Middlesex Earns Third LGBTQ Leader Designation

Press Release, August 16, 2019

Today, Middlesex Health earned its third “LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leader” designation from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organization, and Middlesex earned this designation because it scored well on the foundation’s annual Healthcare Equality Index. This index assesses participants on four criteria: non-discrimination and staff training, patient services and support, employee benefits and policies, and patient and community engagement.

Middlesex Health offers a comprehensive Transgender Medicine Program, which helps about 900 individuals. Middlesex Health’s network of medical providers work with transgender persons to meet specific needs, and services are coordinated throughout the health system. All Middlesex employees are also educated on transgender matters, and the health system facilitates a gender discussion group. The discussion group is open to anyone who is transgender.
