Neurogenic Bladder

Normal voiding—or going to the bathroom—is a process that requires coordination between many parts of your neurologic system, which includes your brain and your spine. If your brain, bladder, and pelvic muscles can't communicate with each other, you may experience incontinence.

When you are diagnosed with a neurological condition—such as MS or Parkinson's—everything can change. Our program is designed to help you live healthily and happily by managing urinary and pelvic health symptoms related to your illness.

What are the symptoms of Neurogenic Bladder?

If you have a neurological issue that impacts your urinary system, you may experience:

  • Overactive or Underactive Bladder
  • Urge Urinary Incontinence
  • Inability to completely empty the bladder
The Middlesex Neurology and Continence Program

If you have urinary issues related to a neurologic condition, it is important that you see a doctor. Your symptoms may be frustrating, but they can also increase your risk of serious complications, such as urinary tract infections or kidney failure.

At Middlesex Health, we have an entire program dedicated to managing pelvic health related to neurological conditions, so that you can achieve the best possible quality of life.

When you contact the Center for Continence & Pelvic Health, you will first interact with our navigator. This provider, who is specially trained in pelvic health, will help connect you to the right providers.

Your care team will work together to identify issues that could damage your kidney function, control urinary tract infections, and maximize your quality of life. Your doctors will stay connected throughout your course of treatment, to make sure all of your needs are met.
