Middlesex Hospital Emergency Department Lobby Reopens

MIDDLETOWN — Middlesex Hospital’s Emergency Department lobby reopened today at noon.

The reopening comes less than two weeks after a car crashed through the Emergency Department’s front entrance and a fire ensued. Following the incident, Hospital staff and many contracted workers worked around the clock to restore the lobby and the adjoining Emergency Department space. The Hospital also opened a temporary Emergency Department in its outpatient surgical services area to treat walk-in patients. The Hospital, however, could not receive ambulance patients.

On March 3, the Hospital reopened its normal Emergency Department and established a temporary entrance at the Hospital’s turret (tower) on Crescent Street. The Hospital also began accepting ambulance patients again.

With the reopening of the lobby, patients can now enter the Emergency Department as they always have. The department’s temporary entrance is now closed, and the Hospital is operating as it did prior to February 22.

Middlesex Hospital would like to thank its many employees and contracted workers for their dedication and hard work. Restoring the Emergency Department and lobby was truly a team effort.
