MRI, CT Scanning Available at Marlborough Medical Center

Press Release, February 22, 2005

Although it just opened its doors to a brand-new facility last April, the Middlesex Hospital Marlborough Medical Center has already added some new technology to its list of offerings.

The Center has begun to offer magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on Mondays, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. MRI technology is very useful in helping to determine stages of cancer and also provides a wealth of information for orthopedic patients.

Another recent technology acquired by the Center is the next generation of multi-slice CT scanner. The Center has had this equipment for two years, but recently purchased an upgrade to the system which provides rapid speed imaging of the brain and other parts of the body. There are very flexible hours available for scheduling CT scans, including up to 7:00 p.m. on weekdays and limited weekend hours. There are minimum waiting times for scheduling.

When the Center opened, it offered a brand new computerized imaging system called PACs, which allows physicians to read scans from their office computers. The capability means that radiologists do not have to be on-site to read scans as in the past, which speeds up the process of diagnosis considerably.

In addition to these state-of-the art technologies, Middlesex Hospital Marlborough Medical Center offers a variety of other diagnostic imaging services, an expanded range of laboratory tests and a full-service Emergency Department, featuring "Express Care," which significantly improves patient waiting times for non-emergencies.
