Robotic Navigation System Helps Spine Surgery Patients
Middlesex Hospital is now using robotic 3D navigation to perform minimally invasive spine surgery, specifically spine fusions.
It began using ExcelsiusGPS™, a Globus Medical, Inc. product, in August, and the technology allows for surgeons to view patient anatomy in real-time. It provides detailed images throughout the procedure to ensure success and improve outcomes. Prior to this, surgeons relied on X-rays to guide them.
ExcelsiusGPS also helps to make surgeries even safer and more precise using robotic guidance. Before performing spine surgery, surgeons are now able to plan screw placement, and during the procedure, place the screws without a metal wire. This often results in a faster recovery and makes the procedure less costly.
