Middlesex Gets New Hospital Beds

Middlesex Hospital in Middletown recently replaced all of its inpatient beds, which will make patients more comfortable and give them access to the latest bed technology.

The 186 new wireless beds, made by Stryker, are designed for patient comfort and patient quality care. They use advanced technology that supports fall prevention. This allows Hospital staff to customize safety features to continuously monitor patients.

Beds that are designated for the Hospital’s Critical Care Unit have additional features that can further help Middlesex patients who are critically ill, such as touch-screen controls and critical intervention reminders.

“It was a very informed decision,” says Kelly Haeckel, Middlesex Health’s director of inpatient services. “We did our research and took into account patient and staff feedback. It was a collaborative effort across many disciplines – from our wound and skin team to nursing, clinical engineering and our patients.”

Most of the new beds were delivered in batches to the Hospital throughout the month of April. They were carried off the delivery truck and placed into a parking garage before being deployed for use.

“It was a huge undertaking, but we were able to work together as a team to successfully swap out our inpatient beds without disrupting care,” says Michael Heusser, Middlesex’s clinical engineering supervisor.
