Bio

Hanspaul Makkar, MD, FAAD, FRCPC is a fellowship-trained dermatologist at Central Connecticut Dermatology and Middlesex Health.

Dr. Makkar is dual-certified by the American Board of Dermatology in both dermatology and pediatric dermatology. He is one of just a few dermatologists worldwide to have completed two fellowships—one in pediatric dermatology at the University of California-San Francisco and the other in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and cutaneous oncology at the California Skin Institute. Dr. Makkar performed his residency in dermatology at the University of California-San Francisco, where he served as chief resident, and his internship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. Dr. Makkar earned his Bachelor of Arts and medical degree at Northwestern University, as a student in the accelerated combined Honors Program in Medical Education.

Prior to co-founding Central Connecticut Dermatology, Dr. Makkar held numerous leadership positions at UConn Health, including Director of Pediatric Dermatology and Pediatric Dermatologic Surgery. He was also the co-director and surgical director of the High Risk Skin Cancer/Transplant Clinic. Dr. Makkar continues to teach at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where he serves as an associate clinical professor of dermatology, surgery, and pediatrics.

Dr. Makkar speaks at the local, national, and international levels and has received numerous awards for his teaching. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Canada.
