Middlesex Earns America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™

Press Release, February 9, 2021

MIDDLETOWN — Middlesex Health has received the Healthgrades 2021 America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ for the second year in a row. The distinction places Middlesex in the top 2 percent of nearly 4,500 hospitals assessed nationwide for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, the leading resource that connects consumers, physicians and health systems.

“Middlesex Health prides itself on providing high quality, compassionate care to the communities it serves, and being named one of America’s 100 best hospitals is an honor we’ve earned — one that recognizes our hard work,” says President and CEO Vincent G. Capece, Jr. “At Middlesex Health, we are a team, and we work collaboratively to care for our patients. Today, nearly a year into the COVID-19 pandemic, we remain united as we forge ahead, facing new challenges every day.”

From 2017 through 2019, patients treated in hospitals achieving the award had, on average, less complications than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award.

In addition to receiving the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™, Middlesex also recently received other Healthgrades awards. It has received the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award™ for the past 14 years and the Critical Care Excellence Award™ for the past five years. For the past four years, it has received the Gastrointestinal Care Excellence Award™.

During the 2021 study period (2017 through 2019), Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ recipients are recognized for overall clinical excellence and providing top quality care across multiple specialty lines and area. These hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 to 32 most common inpatient conditions and procedures — as measured by objective performance data, such as risk-adjusted mortaliy and in-hospital complications.
