Middlesex Health to Train Future Medical Assistants

Press Release, October 8, 2021

MIDDLETOWN — Middlesex Health is now partnering with the National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA) to help train future medical assistants.

This spring, Middlesex Health Primary Care offices in Westbrook, Cromwell and Portland will serve as externship sites for this NIMAA Medical Assistant Training Program. The hope is that NIMAA will serve as a pipeline, allowing Middlesex to hire graduates of the program for open medical assistant positions.

NIMAA is an innovative, 29-week program that incorporates hands-on training and online educational resources. This helps graduates ultimately be successful from day one in high performing, team-based clinics.

In addition, 96 percent of these individuals are prepared to sit for the National Healthcareer Association exam after graduation. Those who pass the exam earn their certified clinical medical assistant credential.

NIMAA is currently accepting applications for the spring. The cost, which includes tuition and fees, is under $7,000.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for those looking for a job or who want to make a change,” says Dr. Israel Cordero, medical director of Middlesex Health Primary Care. “The number of medical assistant jobs is growing at a rapid rate, and this program provides affordable training that can help jumpstart a rewarding career.”
