Banish back pain
Back pain is a common complaint. In most cases, you can take steps to prevent back pain. Try these: 1. Exercise regularly. 2. Practice good posture. 3. Use proper lifting techniques. 4. Sit in chairs that support your lower back. 5. Maintain a healthy weight.
Sunless tanning tips
Want to avoid orange palms, knees and elbows when you're using sunless tanning products? Before applying a sunless tanning product use a washcloth to exfoliate, especially in areas with thick skin such as your knees and elbows. This will help remove excess dead skin cells. Apply the tanner to your body in sections. Wash your hands with soap after each section to avoid discoloring your palms. Knees, elbows and ankles tend to absorb more of sunless tanning products. To dilute the tanning effect in these areas, gently rub them with a damp towel.
Time your lotions right
Apply moisturizers immediately after bathing. After washing or bathing, gently pat or blot your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains on the skin. Immediately moisturize your skin with an oil or cream to help trap water in the surface cells.
Free weights or machines: Which are better?
Free weights are versatile and inexpensive. They also simulate real-life lifting situations and promote whole-body stabilization. Likewise, machine weights can be effective weight training tools, as long as you use machines that adjust to your body dimensions and allow full range of motion of your joints. What is the bottom line? Choose a weight training system that you enjoy and that fits into your lifestyle. And whatever type of resistance you choose, remember that proper technique is more important than the specific type of equipment.
Are you a step ahead of athlete's foot?
The fungus that causes athlete's foot thrives in a warm and wet environment. To stay a step ahead of it, follow these tips: 1. Wear well-ventilated shoes that allow your feet to breathe. 2. If your feet get very sweaty, change your socks twice a day. 3. Wear waterproof sandals or shoes around public pools, showers and locker rooms.
Winter doesn't mean you can sideline the sunscreen
It's as easy to get sunburned in winter as in summer. Snow reflects the sun's rays, so sunburn is possible even if you're cold. When you're outdoors in the winter, wear sunscreen on any exposed areas. Use lip balm that contains sunscreen, too.
Don't let your tots burn
When you head outside for family fun this summer, be sure to protect small children from burns. Keep sunblock handy and protect against other burn hazards: 1. Keep little ones away from grills, fire pits and campfires. 2. Don't let children play with or near fireworks or sparklers. 3. Check children's car seats for hot straps or buckles. These can heat up quickly in a car parked in direct sunlight.
