Celebrating 10 Years of goPINK

The goPINK Project was founded in 2010 by the owners of EG Salon in Middletown, because many of their salon clients and relatives were being diagnosed with cancer. They wanted to make a difference locally and decided to raise money for Middlesex Health Cancer Center by putting pink streaks in people’s hair.

Since, the goPINK Project has grown. Today, 40 businesses and schools raise money for the cause. That money helps Middlesex Health Cancer Center patients receive free integrative medicine therapy, including breast cancer patients. Integrative medicine includes massage therapy, reflexology and acupuncture—all therapies that are not covered by insurance. Integrative medicine helps patients cope with symptoms of cancer treatment, including fatigue, pain and nausea.

To date, the goPINK Project has raised more than $215,000 and has helped 1,200 patients.

How you can help

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the goPINK Project will honor Middlesex Health breast surgeon and Cancer Center medical director Andrea Malon. Dr. Malon has helped so many cancer patients over the years, and donations to the goPINK Project can be made in her honor.

In addition to getting your pink streak at a local salon and making a donation in Dr. Malon’s honor, support local sports teams as they raise money for goPINK. You can also participate in the annual goPINK Fun Run/Walk, which will be held at Middletown High School on September 22 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and attend the annual goPINK Party.

This year’s goPINK Party will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on October 8 at Baci Grill, 134 Berlin Road in Cromwell. Tickets are $20 and include appetizers, wine and beer tastings and music. There will also be a raffle.
