Prenatal and Postpartum Yoga and Pilates Classes Offered

Middlesex Hospital offers prenatal and postpartum yoga and pilates classes. Classes are held at the main Hospital, located at 28 Crescent Street, Middletown and via Skype*. Schedule changes monthly, so please visit the Events & Calendar for the most up-to-date information.

Prenatal Class:

  • Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Bengtson-Wood Conference Room
  • Focuses on activating and relaxing pelvic floor musculature and deep abdominals and upper body strengthening
  • Other objectives are to maintain muscle strength, promote good posture and alignment, learn stretches essential for self care, and to focus on proper breathing techniques during labor.

Postpartum Class:

  • Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Pregnancy & Birth Center Classroom, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Bengtson-Wood Conference Room
  • Focuses on rebuilding the abdominal, back and pelvic muscles, releasing tension in the shoulders and neck, and growing the spiritual, emotional and physical bonds between parent and baby
  • Sessions will also include exercises that assist in the development of the child’s motor skills.

Parent & Toddler Class:

  • Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Please check Event & Calendar for specific date and location) 

Couples Class:

  • Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Please check Event & Calendar for specific date and location)

 

Skype Classes*

Instructor Rikki Alrutz offers Skype classes to students on the one week she is not on the Hospital campus. The times of the classes remain the same. However, rather than traveling to the physical locations, you are able to take part of the class from the comfort of your home. Costs are $15 (drop-in, per class), $50 (5 classes) and $80 (10 classes). The instructor is Rikki Alrutz, licence, M.A., who is certified through PhysicalMind Institute and Balanced Body University and has been teaching since 1998. She is also a certified teaching member of FFH.
