New Stroke Support Group

January 1, 2016

Middlesex Hospital is now offering a stroke support group. The group will meet every fourth Saturday of the month, from 10 a.m. until noon, in the Radiation Oncology Conference Room at the Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center, 536 Saybrook Road, Middletown. Those who have experienced a stroke, along with their caregivers, are welcome to attend.

According to Middlesex Hospital neurologist, Margaret O’Donoghue, M.D., life changes for many patients after a stroke. It can affect their families and their relationships. Patients frequently have to find new ways of coping with everyday activities. Meeting with others who have been in similar circumstances can help give support, comfort, and hope. Other patients and families can also offer practical advice on adaptations and resources. A support group also gives patients and families a venue to discuss their feelings with people who have "been there" and can understand what they are going through. It can provide a sense of community and let people know they are not alone in their struggles.
