Some people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 may experience residual symptoms-symptoms that linger after a person is no longer contagious, and these symptoms can make daily activities, work and leisure difficult.

Residual symptoms may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Fatigue
  • Low endurance
  • Shortness of breath
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness
  • Short-term memory loss
  • Confusion

Middlesex Health Chief of Infectious Disease, Dr. Alina Filozov, and Director of Physical Rehabilitation, Brian Taber, spoke with WFSB about "long COVID" and the treatment options available through the Middlesex Health post-COVID rehabilitation program.

Middlesex Health's team of physical, occupational and speech therapists can help those who experience these residual symptoms. This multidisciplinary team creates individualized treatment plans that result in the best possible outcomes.

Treatment options include:

  • Endurance training
  • Balance retraining
  • Cognitive treatment focusing on "brain fog" (memory, concentration, confusion, etc.)
  • Strengthening and customized exercise programs
  • Activity modification education
  • Pulmonary education

Additional resources are also made available, including behavioral health services and nutritional counseling.

Both telehealth and in-person appointments are available for all Physical Rehabilitation services.
