Alfred K. Hicks, DO is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at Orthopedic Associates of Middletown and Middlesex Health.
Experience & Expertise
Dr. Hicks is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He completed his fellowship in spine surgery at the Norton Leatherman Spine Center/University of Louisville in Louisville, KY. At Norton Leatherman, Dr. Hicks was mentored by both neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons. He performed his residency at Peninsula Hospital (North Shore Long Island Health System) in New York and his internship at Midwestern University in Chicago, IL. He also earned his medical degree at Midwestern University, and he completed a Master of Science in Human Physiology and Biophysics at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
Dr. Hicks is a veteran of the United States Navy. A Lieutenant Commander, he served as a staff orthopedic surgeon at the Naval Hospital Camp LeJeune in North Carolina and in Afghanistan during a tour of duty. During his tour, he performed hundreds of surgeries on victims of combat injuries.
Dr. Hicks has a special interest in the spine, and he has expertise in both surgical and non-surgical spine care for adults and children. He performs minimally invasive procedures to treat disc issues, including herniated discs, scoliosis, tumors, infections, traumatic spine injuries, and more.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Hicks can be found working in his woodshop, skiing and hiking. He enjoys traveling and listening to live music with his wife and children.
