David J. Hergan, MD is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at Middlesex Orthopedic & Spine Associates and Middlesex Health.

Dr. Hergan is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in both orthopedic sports medicine and orthopedic surgery. He completed his fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at New York University/Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York, NY. Dr. Hergan performed his residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI, where he served as Chief Resident. He earned his medical degree at The Chicago Medical School, where he also completed a Master of Science in Applied Physiology.

Dr. Hergan specializes in minimally invasive surgery for the shoulder, hip, and knee. He is particularly interested in hip preservation. He performs anterior approach hip replacement, a type of surgery that may require a smaller incision—which can lead to faster recovery and cause less damage to surrounding muscle. Dr. Hergan has extensive experience in orthopedic sports medicine and serves as the team physician/orthopedic surgeron for Wesleyan University.
