June was a busy month for Middlesex Health. In addition to providing excellent care every day to patients, celebrating Pride Month and marking Juneteenth, the health system was at the golf course supporting the community!

Middlesex Health, the Connecticut State Golf Association’s official health care sponsor, helped welcome golfers at the 122nd Connecticut Amateur, which was held the week of June 10 at the Torrington Country Club. Middlesex sponsored the tournament.

CSGA

Just a few days before CSGA’s tournament, the health system held its own impressive tournament. The 34th annual Middlesex Health Golf Tournament presented by Voya Financial was held June 3 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell. This year, this popular tournament raised $185,900 for Middlesex Health Cancer Center, which has locations in Middletown and Westbrook. The money helps the health system remain at the forefront of cancer treatment and invest in new technology. It also helps to cover the cost of cancer patient support services not covered by insurance, such as nurse navigator services and  integrative medicine therapy.

‘We are thankful for the tremendous support we receive from the many businesses and individuals that sponsor this tournament,” says Sarah Moore, Middlesex Health’s executive director of development. “Our cancer patients are the ones who truly benefit. The support received through this golf tournament changes lives.”

The Middlesex Health Golf Tournament sells out each year, and this year is no exception. In addition to playing a round of golf where the pros play, there is a buffet lunch, on-course refreshments, a dinner reception and awards for top finishers. Speaking of the pros, Middlesex Health was also a proud sponsor of the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship, which was held the week of June 17 at TPC River Highlands.

“As an organization, we know there are many benefits to playing golf,” says Middlesex Health President and CEO Vincent Capece, Jr. “There are both physical and mental benefits for those swinging clubs, but there is also satisfaction when golfing for a cause and making a difference in the community.”
