Taking Pride in a Diverse and Inclusive Middlesex Health

Pride

Middlesex Health is a health care system that both embraces and celebrates the diversity of its patients and staff.

As an organization, Middlesex Health condemns racism and bigotry and embraces equity, inclusion and respect. As such, it marks both Pride Month and Juneteenth annually.

Pride Month is an opportunity for the health system to celebrate and demonstrate support for the LGBTQIA+ community, and Juneteenth is a day to remember the history of enslavement in the United States and celebrate liberation.

Each year, the health system raises the progress pride flag in honor of Pride Month and the Juneteenth flag in recognition of the end of enslavement in the United States. It holds this flag raising ceremony to demonstrate its commitment to creating a culture where patients and employees are valued and feel that they are welcome and belong regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.

In addition, Middlesex Health is a proud partner of Middletown Pride and a sponsor of the Middletown PrideFEST, which was held on June 1. Middlesex Health had several health and information booths at the event, and employees and their families and friends participated in the annual Pride March.

The health system is also a proud sponsor and participant of the Middletown Ujima Alliance and its Juneteenth Parade on June 19. Following the parade, the health system will take part in a Liberation Day Festival at Harbor Park in Middletown.

The health system believes it is important to mark these occasions in meaningful ways. By doing so, it becomes more inclusive and helps to make a difference in the communities it serves, including for Connecticut's golfers.

“We believe in immersing ourselves in the community, taking care of our neighbors and working collectively with other local organizations to make our community an inclusive, healthy place where everyone, regardless of who they love or how they identify, can live, work and play,” says Middlesex Health President and CEO Vincent G. Capece, Jr.
