Attracting avid golfers who care deeply about the availability and quality of end-of-life care, The Middlesex Health Hospice Golf Tournament had its best fundraising year yet.

Raising $100,000, this year’s tournament, which was held on September 12 at Portland Golf Course, sold out. Proceeds will help the Middlesex Health Hospice Program, which serves an average of 700 patients per year at home, in nursing homes and on the 12-bed Comfort Care Unit at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. The majority of patients receive hospice care in their homes.

While hospice care is covered by insurance, the Middlesex Health Hospice Program provides additional services and support to patients and their loved ones that are not covered by insurance. This is where golf tournament participants and other donors make the difference.

In its 37-year history, the Middlesex Health Hospice Golf Tournament has raised a lifetime total of $1.2 million.

Described as an event that embodies community spirit, golfers return year after year to support a good cause and make a difference in the lives of others.

Portland Golf Course has always hosted the tournament. This year, golf course staff ensured that the course was ready for play after torrential rain impacted the area overnight. Title sponsor Ion Bank has also led the way, ensuring tournament success.
