We encourage you to bring any items that will help you stay focused and relaxed during labor. Our full suggested packing list includes items such as:

  • Healthy snacks
  • Toiletries
  • Breastfeeding pillow
  • Sleepwear
  • Changes of clothes for mom
  • Changes of clothes for dad

Please leave all of your jewelry and money - except for small amounts for miscellaneous purchases - at home, as we cannot be responsible for looking after valuable items. However, our staff can help you make arrangements to leave valuables in the hospital safe, if you wish.

When you arrive at the Pregnancy & Birth Center, you’ll settle into your private labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum (LDRP) room. With few exceptions, you will stay in this same room for your entire stay, so there is no need to worry about moving your belongings after giving birth.

Each room is spacious enough for your family and has all the comforts of home, including:

  • a private bath/shower (includes hair dryer)
  • a refrigerator
  • a TV and DVD player
  • a sofa bed for dad

Once you are settled in, we will monitor your baby’s heartbeat for 20-30 minutes, and then intermittently every 15-30 minutes after that, as your condition allows.

For an extra level of comfort and freedom, we use special equipment that allows you to walk around the birth center while still being monitored. Internal fetal monitoring is not used unless you or your baby needs closer tracking.

During your delivery, everything that’s important to you is important to us. Our entire team will do everything they possibly can to accommodate your wishes and follow your personal birth plan.

Our team is flexible and can meet nearly any request, within reason, including:

  • having up to four guests with your during the birth
  • using a midwife
  • using a birthing ball
  • laboring in a tub

Your team of doctors and nurses are highly skilled and completely dedicated to providing the hands-on care and personal attention you and your baby need during your delivery. As long as it is safe for you and your baby, they will adhere to your personalized Birth Plan for everything from activity during labor to pain management.

If you need to have a Cesarean birth, we have two fully-equipped surgical suites within our Pregnancy & Birth Center, and everyone necessary to perform the Cesarean delivery is available within a moment’s notice.
