To reduce the chances of Achilles (uh-KILL-eez) tendon problems, stretch and strengthen calf muscles, vary the type of exercise, try not to run on hard or slippery surfaces, and increase training intensity slowly.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a health care professional immediately if:

  • A pop or snap sound or feeling occurs in the heel.
  • Walking after injury is not possible.
