Overview

Androgenic alopecia is a condition in which the scalp loses hair forever. It's a genetic condition that can occur in anyone. It's sometimes called male-pattern baldness or female-pattern baldness.

Symptoms

The main symptom of androgenic alopecia is hair loss at the hairline or top of the head that slowly spreads.

Treatments

Medicines can prevent further hair loss. Surgery can transplant hair or reduce the area of bald skin. Natural-looking wigs and hairpieces can help cover hair loss.
