Erysipelas

A spreading skin infection that occurs mainly on the leg.

Overview

Erysipelas is a spreading skin infection that occurs mainly on just one leg. The infection can be caused by bacteria entering a cut.

Symptoms

The skin may be swollen, painful and warm to the touch. The affected area may change color and have a raised, spreading border. Other symptoms include blisters, fever and chills.

Treatments

Treatment involves antibiotics.
