Fifth disease

Overview

Fifth disease (parvovirus) is a common and highly contagious childhood ailment.

Symptoms

It causes a distinctive face rash that looks as if the cheeks were slapped. The rash appears after several days and may spread. Fever, upset stomach, headache, runny nose and itching are other symptoms.

Treatments

The virus usually clears up on its own.
