Food craving


An intense desire for certain foods or flavors.


Self-care options include lower calorie, nutritious alternatives to satisfy cravings. Readily available and scheduled nutritious snacks may help. Nonfood options include doing another activity as a distraction, stress management and adequate sleep.

When to make a doctor's appointment

See a healthcare professional if there is:

  • Craving for substances with no nutritional value, such as ice, clay, soil or paper.
  • Uncontrolled weight gain.
