Globus pharyngeus

Description

A common feeling of having a painless lump or ball in the throat, often at the front of the neck.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a health care provider right away if a person also has:

  • Pain in the throat or neck.
  • Bleeding from the mouth or throat.
  • Weight loss.
  • Pain or trouble with swallowing.
  • Muscle weakness.
  • A bump that can be seen in the throat or mouth.
  • Symptoms that get worse over time.

When to make a doctor's appointment

See a health care provider if:

  • The person with globus pharyngeus also has stress, anxiety or depression.
  • The feeling of a painless lump in the throat comes with any other symptoms.
