Maple syrup urine disease

Maple syrup urine disease is an inherited condition that makes it hard to break down certain parts of protein (amino acids).

This can result in urine that smells like maple syrup, poor eating, and developmental delays. Symptoms first appear during infancy.

Treatment is a low-protein diet that's followed for life.
