Mastitis

Overview

Mastitis is an infection of the breast tissue. Possible causes are a blocked milk duct or bacteria entering the breast.

Symptoms

Symptoms include breast pain, swelling, warmth, fever, and chills. It usually occurs within the first three months of breast-feeding.

Treatments

Antibiotics are required. Mild pain relievers can help with discomfort.
