Self-care options include establishing a regular sleep routine and finding ways to relieve stress. Locking doors and windows at night may help prevent injury.
When to make a doctor's appointment
See a doctor if:
- Routinely disrupts sleep or the sleep of others
- Causes fear about going to sleep
- Leads to dangerous behavior or injury
- Follows the same pattern
- Persists beyond teen years or begins in adulthood
