Night terror

Self-care options include establishing a regular sleep routine and finding ways to relieve stress. Locking doors and windows at night may help prevent injury.

When to make a doctor's appointment

See a doctor if:

  • Routinely disrupts sleep or the sleep of others
  • Causes fear about going to sleep
  • Leads to dangerous behavior or injury
  • Follows the same pattern
  • Persists beyond teen years or begins in adulthood
