Patau syndrome

Overview

Patau syndrome (trisomy 13 syndrome) is a condition in which a person is born with an extra chromosome 13. This causes severe intellectual disability and physical defects.

Most infants with this condition don't live past their first weeks of life. Up to 10 percent live to 1 year. Prenatal testing can detect Patau syndrome during pregnancy.
