Poliomyelitis

Overview

Polio (poliomyelitis) is a virus that can cause paralysis, difficulty breathing and sometimes death. Polio is transmitted through contaminated water and food or contact with an infected person.

Symptoms

Symptoms include fever, sore throat, headache and vomiting.

Treatments

Treatment includes pain relievers, portable ventilators and physical therapy.
