Pyelonephritis

Overview

Kidney infection (pyelonephritis) is inflammation of the kidney from a specific type of urinary tract infection (UTI). The UTI usually begins in the urethra or bladder and travels to the kidneys.

Symptoms

Fever, pain in the back, side, or groin, and frequent urination are symptoms.

Treatments

Treatment includes antibiotics and often requires hospitalization.
