Right bundle branch block

Description

A delay or blockage of electrical signals to the right side of the heart.

Overview

Right bundle branch block affects the signals that tell the heart to beat. A heart attack, high blood pressure in the lungs, or a blood clot in the lungs can cause right bundle branch block. So can some heart conditions present at birth such as an atrial septal defect.

Symptoms

Most people don't have symptoms. If they occur, they include fainting or a slow heart rate.

Treatments

Treatment depends on the cause. Any underlying condition, such as heart disease, should be treated. Some people need a device called a pacemaker to help the heart beat.
