Serotonin syndrome

Overview

Serotonin syndrome risk factors include taking medications, illicit drugs or herbal supplements that increase serotonin levels.

Symptoms

Minor serotonin syndrome symptoms can include confusion, rapid heart rate and sweating. Life-threatening symptoms include high fever and seizures.

Treatments

Treatment usually involves stopping the medication that's causing the symptoms. Sometimes medications may be needed to block serotonin.
