Self-care options include a consistent sleep schedule and relaxing activities before bedtime. Avoidance of heavy meals and alcoholic drinks before sleep may help.

When to make a doctor's appointment

See a doctor if:

  • Daytime irritability or sleepiness
  • Loud, chronic snoring
  • Pauses in breathing during sleep
  • Trouble falling asleep
