Self-care
Self-care includes drinking plenty of water and eating fruits and vegetables. Take in more fluids when exercising, ill, or in a hot environment to avoid dehydration.
When to seek immediate medical care
See a doctor immediately if:
- Extreme thirst
- Lack of urination
- Shriveled skin
- Dizziness
- Confusion
When to make a doctor's appointment
Make an appointment to see a doctor if:
- Moderate diarrhea for 24 hours or more
- Can't keep down fluids
- Sleepier or less active than usual
- Excess urination with excess thirst
- Weight loss
