Description

The feeling or need for something to drink, often related to dehydration.

Self-care

Self-care includes drinking plenty of water and eating fruits and vegetables, which are high in water. Take in more fluids when exercising, ill or in a hot environment to avoid dehydration.

When to seek immediate medical care

Seek medical care immediately for:

  • Extreme thirst.
  • Lack of urination.
  • Shriveled skin.
  • Dizziness.
  • Confusion.

When to make a doctor's appointment

Make an appointment to see a healthcare professional if:

  • Have diarrhea for 24 hours or more.
  • Can't keep down fluids.
  • Sleepier or less active than usual.
