Avoid excess caffeine, limit alcohol, and try relaxation methods, such as massage or meditation. Do daily tasks differently, such as online bill-paying versus writing checks.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Sudden onset
  • Under 50 years old
  • Accompanied by confusion or weakness
  • Difficulty walking
  • Fast heart rate

When to make a doctor's appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • New or getting worse
  • Persistent and unable to complete daily activities or tasks
  • Work is affected
