When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Unintentional weight loss that can't be explained by a change in diet or lifestyle
  • Weight loss occurs with excessive thirst and frequent urination

When to make a doctor's appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • Intentional weight loss is excessive
  • Digestive symptoms such as abdominal pain, feeling full quickly, or trouble swallowing
  • Accompanied by nausea or lack of appetite
