Over-the-counter pain relievers include ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) or acetaminophen (Tylenol, others). Rest, ice, and using a wrist support may help.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Injury
  • Swelling
  • Severe pain
  • Reduced movement or altered sensation
  • Deformity

When to make a doctor's appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • Persistent pain and swelling
  • Unexplained pain
  • Affects daily activity
